History of the KIND Foundation
The KIND Foundation began in 1987 in San Diego. After five years of focusing on pediatric neurological research in California, KIND relocated to Palm Beach County, Florida in 1992. Due to the lack of support and resources for parents of children with disabilities at that time, the KIND Foundation started a resource center to disseminate information in order to help parents find appropriate educational programs to meet their developmentally delayed and disabled children's needs.
Facts:
- KIND operates a non-profit learning center (CAL's Place) that provides children with the specialized instruction they need in order to learn. Students receive one-to-one, personalized instruction from specially trained instructors so that they can become independent learners in their regular classes.
- KIND offers families a resource center filled with books and videos so that parents and siblings of these children can understand why they struggle and how to help.
- KIND provides parent support groups, seminars, and information sessions to help caretakers address the needs of learning disabled children.
- KIND works collaboratively with local health care professional and education agencies to help ensure that children are received the best services available to them.
- KIND collaborates with the Michigan Dyslexia Institute to provide training to teachers in specialized approaches to working with these children.
KIND is a 501(C)(3) charitable Foundation focusing on prevention and intervention of developmental delays and disabilities in children. There are many special-needs children suffering from a variety of developmental delays including:
